Relocation

Many people who visit the Mountain Home Area find themselves staying. While our area has a lot to offer vacationers, we have even more to offer residents. Rand McNally's Retirement Places Rated and AARP's Sun Belt Retirement ranked the Mountain Home Area as one of the top places to retire in the United States. Where to Retire magazine named the area an undiscovered haven.

The lakes, mountains and rivers are obviously a large part of the draw, but there are many reasons why the Twin Lakes Area is not only a good place to retire, but also a great place to start or raise a family.

While the best things in life are free, Mountain Home's low cost of living and minimal taxes make those that aren't more affordable. We offer a diverse economy with a strong manufacturing and retail market, accompanied by a strong base of employees. The Twin Lakes Area also enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the country (partly due to the extremely low unemployment rate, as well as our just plain good people).

The Mountain Home school district is fully accredited and one of the largest in Arkansas. Housing is affordable—ranging from apartments, to condos, to country club estates, retirement communities, and more.

Apartments, condos, duplexes, and retirement homes provide furnished and unfurnished living space with a variety of amenities.

If you prefer to build your dream home, you'll find property and building costs attractive.
The average selling price of a home in Mountain Home was $120,000 in 2005, according to local records. Property taxes for a house (including lot) of that value are $960 annually. Rental of a home is in the range of $450 to $500 monthly, and apartments are available in Mountain Home beginning at approximately $330 for a two-bedroom. Many apartment rentals are on a sliding scale based on income levels.
